"Luke" is an 11 year old ex-racehorse, a
beautiful guy with a wonderful
personality and sweet disposition. I've
owned him for close to 7 years and have
only ridden him a handful of times, but
he has been on several trail rides in
the mountains and at the beach with his
previous owner.
He has a pretty,
ground covering stride, carries himself
well, is smart and eager to please. He
does have a couple of irritating "race
horse" habits, mostly getting way behind
the bit, but he has never done anything
crazy or dangerous and though he's not a
hot horse, I probably wouldnt reccommend
him for a timid beginner, maybe a
confident beginner who has a
trainer.
Luke is a half brother
to millionaire and Multiple Graded
Stakes winner Bet On Sunshine, who set
the course record for 6 1/2 furlongs in
2001. His sire, Alwuhush, stands in
Germany and has sired some successful
jumping and steeplechase horses. His
pedigree goes back to Man O War, Swaps
and Native Dancer among
others.
He's been a wonderful
"pasture pet" for these past few years
and is pretty low maintainence for a TB.
He was never injured during his racing
days (or after), he's never coliced,
he's a fairly easy keeper.
He
does crib, and I keep a miracle collar
on him when he's inside or in the
pasture near the barn, which works
great. For anyone leary of cribbing
horses, I suggest you search for more
information, as there are many myths and
it is actually not that big of a
deal.
He has been barefoot most
of the time, but he does have typical
"tender" TB feet, so if he is going to
be ridden more than occasionally, he
does need to be shod. I really don't
want to sell him, but I just have too
many horses. I am also listing my
Trakhener/Morgan yearling and one of
them needs to go, so whoever sells first
will go to a new home, the other will
stay.
I do not have an arena, but
I do have miles of trails, so if you
want to take Luke for a test ride, it
will either be outside, or in my
neighbors tiny arena. He clips, loads,
hauls, trims and bathes easily and loves
to drink from the hose.
Priced at
$1,500, negotiable to right home, and I
will take payments with $500 down, $500
a month, and he stays here, board free,
until he's paid off. I will sell him
with a 1 week trial period, as I want
him to have the right home. He's a neat
guy and deserves a home that appreciates
him. I will also be selling him with a
"buy back clause", where I will have
first rights to buy him back if the new
owner needs to sell him. This is purely
for his protection, and anyone who I
decide to sell him to will understand
that.
