Dixie is a 5 year old Morgan Cross mare.
She is 14.2 hands and a very stocky,
strong little horse. She would make a
great speed horse or a 4-H horse with a
little bit more work. She is a beautiful
mover and is incredibly smooth. It is
amazing to watch her go. She will even
put her tail up and swing her head from
side to side as if showing off. I have
only walked her around under saddle but
she has done very well. She is such a
fast learner that I feel that it would
be very easy to finish her training.
Dixie is also a very easy keeper (as you
can tell from the pictures). She is just
on pasture in those pictures and she is
very fat. She stayed that fat all winter
on just hay also!
I got Dixie
from a neighbor who had a herd of
horses. She had not been touched
what-so-ever by the owners when I
received her at 9 months old. To get her
to my house, we led her mother (after a
lot of chasing and treats) down the road
and Dixie followed.
Dixie now
stands for the farrier (her hooves were
done on July 12th) and stands tied very
well. She will take the saddle and bit
very easily. You can also walk behind
her and she doesn't even really notice.
She is great with dogs and used to lawn
mowers. She has not been out on the
road, but she is fine with our cars in
the driveway. Dixie is unbelievably easy
to catch. You just have to let out one
long whistle, call her name, and she
will whinny and come running. From there
she will hang her head over the gate and
wait for you to put her halter
on.
