I would like to introduce Sturgis. He
is a grade 13 year old quarter horse
cross. He is broke to ride western and I
was told came from a ranch out west
somewhere, before getting to the place I
purchased him from. He is very gentle
and I believe an advanced beginner could
handle him now. he will test his rider
at first, one or two times, just to see
if he can eat grass but once he knows
who's in charge he's good. He was used
mainly as a trail horse at his last
home, but i was told he did have a rope
thrown off of him while there and didnt
care and he also worked cattle out west.
He hasnt been ridden since November, but
my brother and i put the saddle on him
on 5/25/08 and just measured him for
it(it needs a new hole on the strap
before i can saddle him up and ride
him). But my brother tightened it up and
got on him while i held him and he didnt
care, just raised his head cause the
saddle creaked some, but other than that
was calm and just stood patiently for
us. We rode him 5/29/08-6/2/08, rode him
down the rodes, in the yard, all around
children and lots of people and noise
and while it was thundering and
lightning(we were in our way back when
it started) and he didnt care at all.
Gave kids and some inexperienced teens
rides on him and he was a perfect
gentleman for everything...even having
his picture taken several times. Then he
wasn't ridden again til July 12th and he
did just fine getting saddled up and
being ridden. You can also ride him with
just a halter and lead rope. He is good
with his feet, easy to halter, stands
nicely to be tacked up, stands tied,
likes to be groomed, easy to load and
haul and easy to catch, even out in a
big open pasture. I let him loose in our
yard with just his halter on to graze
and i will go and do other things and i
dont even worry about him leaving and
when it is time to be caught and put up
i will go out to where he is, whistle
and call and start walking to him and he
will walk to where we usually go to walk
to get back to his pen and let me catch
him. He had a 7 year old walk right up
to him while he was out and grab at his
halter and he didnt care, and he didnt
make a bad move while the boy held onto
his halter. He loves his attention, but
isnt an in your face type of horse. He
will let you hug him and even his head,
but can be a bit shy at first but once
he gets to know you and know you arent
there to hurt him he is fine. He can be
laid back while riding or get up and go
if you ask. Isnt spooky, but is alert.
He is used to goats, cows, chickens,
dogs(both large and small) and cats. he
is bay in color, but is really starting
to lighten up this spring(doesn't look a
thing like what he does in the
pictures...i have new ones, the person
riding him is his old owner) This is an
old picture of him, but is the only one
that will fit, i have plenty more just
ask. I am only selling him as i am
interested in a different breed, but if
he doesnt sell i will be keeping him. He
is up to date on worming, shots and
trimming( hooves just done 7/15/08). I
think he is QH/TW, but not sure farrier
kinda thinks he might have a bit of
thoroughbred in him, but he doesn't like
to take off. Serious buyers only. And a
GREAT home is a must!!! I am asking
$1650, he is worth it, price is possibly
negotiable to right home. I would like
to have first buy back option and be
able to keep tabs on how he is doing. We
also have dairy goats for sale, please
email for more information on them.
Thanks.
Price: $ 1,650 (Negotiable)
