Empress *Rescue Horse*, Bay Brabant For Sale in Ontario (Canada)
$ 550 (Price is Firm)
***Companion Only***

We believe Empress to be a Brabant or a cross of such.

An individual who had to give Empress up, due to personal reasons, saved her from a meat sale about 5-6 years ago. She has harness scars all over her, so she was most likely over worked and sent for meat at the age of 6 or so, when her body broke down.

From what we have been told, she did not receive much, if any hoof care because she would not lift her feet (was never trained to and was most likely forced into stocks when she was a plow horse).

Empress is receiving hoof care at SAD. She needs sedation for her farrier trims to help her relax her muscles so we can lift up her feet and have them worked on, as she knows how to plant them firmly and lock her knees. We believe that one day, she will not need sedation for a trim, but for the time, it is needed and it is a great way to show her that it is o.k and it is a positive experience. She is worked with between trims, and she is learning what is expected.

Empress’s soundness issues are due to ringbone in her left rear pastern. Since
horses with ringbone do best with consistent low-level activity; we will be looking for a home for Empress that will give her some activity a few times a week (walked around the farm, on trails etc.). She should also be outside 24/7, as the movement will help decrease inflammation and improve blood flow. Soft ground is ideal.

Empress is a very sweet and gentle mare who would make a great family horse. She is loved here and she is one of the gentlest mares we have had in……and very huggable too! Empress came to us in good weight and in good spirits.

If you can welcome Empress into your family, we would love to hear from you.

SAD Horse Rescue
Alliston, Ont.

SOLD! Roman *Rescue Horse*, Bay Clydesdale For Sale in Ontario (Canada) SOLD!
$ 1,500 (Price is Firm)
Roman came to us as a stud colt from a show breeder’s farm. He was unwanted because his front left is not pure white and he was not the height he was hoped to reach at a year old. Being of little value for show and still intact, Roman was scheduled to be sent for meat. It may be hard to believe, but this is what happens to not all, but many drafts that are not seen as useful by their owners/breeders. Thankfully, with a few days to spare, the breeder was told about SAD. They contacted us and allowed us to save him from that fate.

Roman was gelded on arrival here at SAD. The surgery was complicated because he prolapsed, and after 2 corrective surgeries and time to heal, Roman is doing wonderful! He earned his name because of the bravery he showed during his treatment and recovery. He is a real trouper and he never once lost patience or trust in us! We are just thankful he was somewhere that cared for him during this ordeal, or he may have been disposed of when the complications started and not provided the vet care that he desperately needed to recover.

Roman is as good as new and is enjoying the relaxed life of a gelding. He is now ready to find that perfect home. He is great with other horses, lifts his feet well (was never done in stocks), and is just a big friendly kid. He needs a loving family that will treasure him and that will have the ability/resources to provide training when he is older.

Thank you,

SAD Horse Rescue
Alliston, Ont.
Alfalfa *Rescue Baby*, Grey Percheron For Sale in Ontario (Canada)
$ 650 (Price is Firm)
Alfalfa was sent to a meat auction and saved by us. He was unhandled, loaded with lice and internal parasites, feet badly over grown and frogs rotted and bleeding.

Alfalfa has made an amazing recovery here at SAD and is parasite free and is now a well handled, growing boy – it has become more and more apparent that he will be big! He now leads, ties, lifts his feet when asked and is very trusting of people.

Alfalfa is now ready to find a loving, forever home that will be able to provide him with the training he will need when he grows up. The right home will also have experience with raising and training young horses.

Alfalfa will be adopted out with a contract stating he will be gelded before spring 2009.

Thank you,

SAD Horse Rescue
Alliston, Ont.
